Terry Fox Run 2007 KL
Diagnosed to have osteosarcoma at the tender age of 18, Terry Fox had to have his right leg amputated and was given a prosthesis (artificial leg). He was touched by his fellow cancer suffering patients while he was in the hospital.
3 years later, at the age of 21 the chap decided to run the marathon of hope to raise the public awareness and funds for research on cancer. He planned to run across Canada at the pace of 42km (standard marathon distance) per day. Sadly, he couldn't finish the run after 143 consecutive days (he ran about 5373km by then) when his health condition couldn't allow him to continue any further. He died shortly after just one month before he reached 23 . Currently this run is an international event that is being held every year in multiple cities to raise fund for cancer research.
In KL, the event will be held on:
Date of The Run: 4th November 2007
Flag Off: 9 am
Venue: Taman Tasik Perdana (Lake Gardens)
as you can see...there's no advertisment on the T-shirt (unlike those from Penang Marathon 2007 which has sponsors over every inch of the shirt), this is as accordance to Terry Fox's wish of not seeking fame or fortune for the event...so yes, this shirt is as clean as it gets!
OK, I also wanna run! I need to train for marathon as well (the distance is 6.5km - should hardly be a problem), but I don't think I can make it to KL this weekend. Well, so who else is going?
Seriously, if Terry Fox can do it with one amputated leg, what excuse can you have for not running 6.5km? (ok, my excuse is i'm in Batu Pahat...lame, i know...)
