Christmas 2006

Last Christmas was different, as I didn't celebrate with my boy friend, not even my cell group members.. I was celebrating it with my coursemates.. A group of friends who are not Christians and Christmas day is just another public holiday for them.

But Woon Teng brought us to St. Anne's Church on Christmas eve. The church is kinda famous in Bukit Mertajam (BM). There are a lot of statues in the church compound. There are a lot of statues in the church compound.. Actually each statues represent the scene before Jesus's death..but, i can't remember which come first already. Perhaps you can help me to put them in order.

Above is the St. Anne's church..

well, i have tried my best to put them in order..

here are some photos taken in the church with my friends..

This picture appeared to be the weirdest as the baby Jesus was lost! We are not sure it was designed to be like that or someone has stolen the baby.

Computer lab after renovation

I didn't like to go to my school's computer lab due to network problem. Furthermore, some of the computer equipments were old and cannot be used anymore!

But, in this new semester, the school of biological science seemed to realize that it's time for them to change and do something on the computer lab.

The computer lab was closed for two weeks..On the day it reopened..

tata!!!

All the old and heavy monitors were changed to LCD. And the server is better than before.

Now, i begin to like the computer room!

Fire Drill

I am always good in giving not-so-good prediction. For instance, if my friend is going back to home town, I will ask them to call a taxi instead of walking out as it might rain on the she goes back. (we can only reach at the mini bus bus station after 20-25minutes of walking. It will be slower if she has lots luggages with her.) Evidently, I was right on my jokes every times.

Since then, my room mate and her friend asked me to shut my mouth the day before they go back home, or they will have to spend a lot on taxi!

Last night, I suddenly raised the matter of fire drill to my room mate. As this is only the fifth week of new semester, we never expect that it will be held last night!

My room mate was a bit unconsious when the alarm started to ring. She some more asked me to off the light before go out.(What the? Will you off the light in emergency?) She was completely awoke when the officer came and knocked on our door.

We laughed all the way down from our room to the gathering spot as my mouth, once again, made things happen..

Luckily there were no reporter from Berita Kampus last night, or we would be reported as "Penghuni yang tidak berprihatin dan berotak"..

Anyway, it's funnier when this uncle announced that most of us are going to be "Roasted Chicken Wings" as the building only clear after 8 minutes ( should be cleared within 3 minutes). Actually, the building was cleared within 3 minutes in the first year. We were the first penghuni and we thought it was a real emergency. We know their stupid tactis the next year and the time we managed to clear the building increases yearly.

I have been in Penang for three years.. I remembered, we have only two students (includes me), who came from Sarawak, in the class of pure biological sciences. Since she is Iban, she mixed well with those Malay girls. But I was left, alone.

The image that I've built among the course mates was, " A girl who likes to wear skirt.." Since they didn't know my name, they would refer me as the girl who wears skirt everyday, even the seniors did the same!

We were divided into different majors based on our academic performance in the second year. Then only I got to know them, my "buddies" in USM.

Woon Teng, who was my partner for every laboratory work (when the lab was done in pairs.) She is a perfectionist. She does her work properly and never give up until she get the best result. She spends an hour 10 to 15 minutes every morning to tidy up her bed. At the end, the mattress will look like being ironed!

Meng Seong (right) and Yee Son, both are coming from Ipoh. Meng Seong is a bright girl who likes Doraemon very much. Yee Son goes back home every week to meet up with her boy friend. Thus we put her in a club called PBSM - Pelajar Balik Setiap Minggu. See what were they doing? They were having their dinner in the lab!

Genyi (on the right) and Kopi are Biotech students. I only met them in second year as Microb and Biotech students were taking the same subjects in the second year. Genyi is a girl who doesn't like scary movie and ghost story. Genyi and I were left behind while the rest were going to a exhibition of " natural creature" and spirits at Penang Pesta. Kopi is good in handling computer's problem. She has a lot of computer games, but she likes Nancy Drew the most.

Wui Chen is another member of PBSM. She seldom with us, not even on my birthday, as her male "best friend's" birthday is on the same day. She is good in denying her secret relationship with the boy, but her unstoppable smile betrays her.

Lastly, my room mate. She is from the school of chemical sciences. The first day we moved in to the same room, she left me alone at the hostel without telling me where she had been? But then, she came back with a pack of delicious Ayam Mas Chicken rice and munched "politely" in front of me. She has the habit of Finger Licking Good. No matter what she eat, she likes to lick her fingers. She likes to hang out with my friend. But she only hangs out with her male coursemates..(muahaha...) She is quite a patient person but not towards her boy friend (pity Vincent..)

We will graduate soon...Friends, no matter where you go and what you do, my blessing is always with you!

Meeting with an old friend

Was down to KL to meet katak who had been 'drinking ah mo water' (went overseas) for the past one and a half year. kinda expect him to grow fatter but he was still able to maintain his build quite nicely, ha. Get to meet his ex-housemate, Kiant Teck who really can't keep quiet for even a minute. He is really a very nice guy, imaging travelling from cyber jaya just to take katak here and there around kl, he even nearly wanted to send me back to Seremban at night as well! His father must be an oil tycoon...
We also met up with Siew Hui who is working in KL now. Get to stay in Shih Ming's place for a night in Taman Melati. That poor guy, dunno how is he going to study for his exam in two weeks time as after katak go back to bintulu this Tuesday, Jih Leong will come and ask him to go borrow money from uncle Lim (Genting). After that, Katak will disturb him for another few days next week before he finally flies back to UK.

Nice graduation outfit

These pics are 'stolen' from some of my friends from friendster. Was too boring and decided to browse through my friends photo and update myself on the latest gossip. Guest what i found? They are the pharmacy batch that enter IMU the same time as I did, and they already graduated while i still got another year with another professional exam! Damn sien....

But anyway, after seeing their picture, i decided that i will never let my children (especially a boy) go into a scottish uni...

If i was among them, i'll rather change sex and wear like a girl, man, nobody can force me to wear a kilt, especially during my graduation! Since they have to wear the traditional scottish costume, will IMU force us to wear like a traditional malay man with during our graduation? OMG, i almost forgot, Malay's sampeng also somehow resemble the kilt! While the scotts may have a dirk, we will be equipped with a keris!

Anyway, congratulations to them and hope they suceed in their future career!

see the metal plate on their gugu? that's not the medal for the heavyweight championship, that's a sporran if i'm not mistaken

from left, Melissa, Su Keat, Alvin and two other that i dunno

fellow ass, come, we all wear this during our graduation and bring a keris and fight like Hang Tuah!

A trip down Malacca

On the end of last year, Su Lin & me were able to make a trip together down to this historic city of our nation, Malacca. Call it our little vacation and as we had no extra money to spare, we decided to have a one day trip, emm, actually a half-day trip.

we left Seremban at 11.30am on a bus (RM5 something per trip per person) and reached Malacca bus terminal at around 1pm. From there, you can take the town bus to Makhota (RM0.80 per trip per person) where you'll reach the Christ Church.

notice a glass room at the right beside the fridge? that's the room with a machine to turn the rice into rice balls! i wonder whether it can do the same with our waste products, imagine a shit ball!

We had the infamous chicken rice balls for lunch. Nothing special actually, it's just chicken rice made into balls, dunno why it's so hyped up as a must eat in Malacca. Heck, the chicken rice balls are not even as big as my balls, ha! It is also not cheap, ten rice balls cost you RM6, plus the chicken for two is RM7, it totals up to RM13! which is double the price you eat in normal chicken rice stall. Maybe I'm not in the right place, we ate it in Famosa Chicken rice ball sdn. bhd beside Renaissance Hotel. If anybody of you have a better place, pls introduce to me to prove me wrong on malacca chicken rice balls.

Then we headed to Christ church. Later we lepak around Jonker street, it's really special though, they have a lot of Malacca delicacies (chendol, pineapple biscuits, etc) and antique shops here. Well, it's really true about Malacca chendol, it's the best i ever eaten in my life! We had it in this shop called Jonker dessert (88). When you ordered the shaved ice, you'll see the tauke pouring generously the thick gula malacca and creamy santan that you just can't wait to have a bite of it! It's really really nice, a bite of it make you feel like in bloody heaven.

this is the baba chendol (RM1.80). note the thick gula malacca and creamy santan....it's definately a must try when you are in malacca

this is mangoe ice kacang (RM2.70). they use real mangoe slices!! i repeat, real mangoe slices!! wa, i'm so going to go back there again to grab a bowl of this

After trying the chendol malacca, we headed to the Saint Paul hill to visit the ruin of Saint Paul church and the A'famosa (which has a very tongue twisting portoguse name that I forgot). More photos here

That's all, it's a very sweet afternoon and having thought that, this is the first time two of us went to somewhere that none of us are familiar with...so it's our first travel together, wow! We actually wanted to try the satay chellup, but unfortunately it's only open in late evening and the last bus back to Seremban is at 7.30pm so we didn't dare to take the risk, well, maybe next time. I'll sure come back for another bowl of the wonderful chendol!

The next gen mobile phone

If you think you own the best mobile phone to date, think again.
It doesn't matter whether it is the current top of the line 3G phone Nokia N73 and Sony Ericsson K800i

Or the sexiest mobile LG chocolate and Motorolla Razor

Or the most fully featured smartphone Dopod

All of these will look like a laughable last century antique when you see this. Because Apple had just reinvented the mobile phone, and not surprisingly, they call it the iphone (with all their jaw dropping inovation, can't they think of a fancier name?). Go to their official site here

Tech Specs

isn't this the sexiest thing, EVER?

The iphone is like a widescreen ipod + a full featured EDGE phone + a breakthrough mobile internet device!!!

Note that there isn't any keyboard, the entire phone is just the sexy looking 3.5" LCD panel and a button (the home button)! No, it's not a slider phone, it features a revolutional multi touch screen! Unlike other phones that has a touch screen, using stylus to navigate around the screen is just so silly once you see how this multi touch screen work like a magic using only you fingers! it's something like the infrared button of the LG chocolate, but only 100000x better! words just don't serve justice to how this technology work, you gotta see it yourself here.

Sensors are everywhere in this device. The screen can tilt itself whether you hold it vertically or landscape. It run on a mobile version of the OSX and feature a full blown web browser and other useful widegets you get in OSX! it comes with a 8gb storage, imaging browsing your photos, you videos in this little beauty...wah...just imaging how many pairs of envious eyes will land all their attention on you

that's just so cool, my saliva is drooling now, I want one!! give me one now!! other mobile phone manufaturers, watch out your ass man, maybe this will be the next ipod in the mp3 player market.

These are the specs:

Screen size 3.5 inches
Screen resolution 320 by 480 at 160 ppi
Input method Multi-touch
Operating system OS X
Storage 4GB or 8GB
GSM Quad-band (MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
Wireless data Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) + EDGE + Bluetooth 2.0
Camera 2.0 megapixels
Battery
  • Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing
  • Up to 16 hours Audio playback
Dimensions 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
Weight 4.8 ounces / 135 grams

Although there is no 3G in this baby, but the Wi-fi feature is a ++! it is only available in US somewhere in June and it cost USD 599 and you need to have a contract with Cingular for 2 years! For us Asians, it will only be available in 2008, and god knows what might the price be like especially our country where we don't have any contract service offered by local telco companies. Who the fuck cares, it's so bloody sexy that it's irresistable...

Penguin's Rush Hour

I went back to Penang this Tuesday only found out that my lecture on Wednesday at 11am was cancelled. (Shit! If I know earlier, i'll stay at Seremban till this weekends! Since this is my final semester, I have only got class from Monday to Wednesday!)

I went back to lab heavily the next day and prepared medium, thinking of doing genes transformation.. While waiting for the things to be autoclaved, my supervisor suddenly told me to hold my research progress as he wanted me to do the transformation with different plasmid vector.Okay.. I'll only get those plamid things after 2, 3 weeks..

ahh!! I've nothing to do in campus! Wireless network down due to Taiwan earthquake.. I've nothing to do.... hmm?? How about going to Seremban again?!

YES!! Brilliant idea!

I reached bus terminal the next hour after I came out with the idea. I managed to get on the bus to KL at 5.30pm. If nothing goes wrong, I should be arriving at KL around 9.30pm. I've to reach Tasek Selatan before 11pm as KTM will close around 11pm. ( If i missed the last train, i'll be stucked at Tasek Selatan!!)

Who knew, the bus only arrived at KL at 10.15pm! (I need another 25mins only reach Tasek Selatan from Plaza Rakyat!) It was all because of the stupid bus driver! He talked to his friend all the way from Penang to KL! Some more ate rambutans while driving! I started to run to LRT station once I left the bus.

I always follow some one's buttock (you surely know who is he.) all the way from KL to Seremban, besides, I'm not quite sure how to buy ticket for LRT and KTM as he was the one who did the purchasing everytime.

My brain kept refreshing my memory on how he bought the ticket and which lane to go for LRT and KTM while running through the crowd at Pudu Terminal.

I managed to get on LRT at 10.23pm. ha...I'll only reach Tasek Selatan around 10.45pm..(God!! Pls make this LRT goes faster!)

I run to KTM ticketing machine once I get off from LRT. I guess my awkward pressing movement on the ticketing machine had caught the guard's attention. He came over and taught me which button to press to buy the ticket. ( I found my hands shaking when i was pressing the buttons. If I was given time, I sure can do it myself.)

The train arrived once I got the ticket. I ran down the stairs (with a unreadable speed).

Finally..I got into the train!!Yeah, yeah! I felt so relief!

My phone battery ran out when I got into the train. When I reached Seremban, It was already 11.30pm.. My heart palpitated as the station was quiet..

I made a call with public phone but I only heard Dan saying hello, hello...I searched for the talk button but there's no such button. I tried with the second phone. The stupid phone "swallowed" my coins before I press any number.. I tried the third...can't call also!! What had happened to the public phones?!

Ahh.. I can only wait and hope that Dan's phone would trace the call was from Seremban.

Thanks god! Dan came to fetch me after 15 mins (what took him so long anyway?!)..

Kota Kinabalu adventure part II - Poring hot spring & Manukan Island

Upon leaving Mount. Kinabalu Park after the descent (from part I) from mount Kinabalu on the third day, we headed to poring hotspring intended for a refreshing hot bath. However, the trip proved to be a major disappointment as the so called hot spring is rubbish, even the one in Kuala Kubu Baru (Ulu Selangor) is way way better.

The hot spring was some 30km from the mount. Kinabalu national park and it is really secluded. The accomodation we stayed sucks to the hell (it looked kinda like a haunted house more than a "hostel" *really don't know what category of accomodation that is, it's so fucking run down) and four of us were their only customer that day! Anyway, can't blame anybody as we signed up for super budget package.

The thing that really turned us off was the hotspring itself. It was under renovation when we got there and they tweaked the pump to allow the construction to proceed but leave us with hot water that need at least hours to fill up! The design of the spring is not like the one you see in Japanese movies, no, not at all, don't even think about it. It's like a water tank with four individual cubic where hot water is lead in by pipes and taps. It just felt so bathroom...no hotspring feel at all. As if that was not enough, the tank was leaking!!! wtf??? with so little water and yet the plug did not fit the drainage system!!! I tell you, my tank water level never get pass my ankle level! So there we were, sitting in a pool, waiting for our hot water to get ready, waiting, waiting...surrounded by construction workers and materials in an ambient of noisy drilling sound from the construction work....what a great bath, don't you think so?

we were so pissed that we didn't explore around the area. It was told that the scenery of that park was gorgeous with a lot of fauna and flora to be found, even Rafflesia flower (the biggest and smelliest flower in the world) can be found there. But i guess we had enough of that for the past 2 days. We slept early that night after dinner as like previous 2 days, this place is so fucking ulu that you'll get mad staying there for > 1 night.

We went to Manukan Island the next day. We need to get a ~20 min boat ride from Sutera Habour to the island itself. Along the ride you can see rubbish like plastic bags, empty bottles floating over the sea...well, it just make you hate those fucking tourist who destroy all these natural assets...

We went for snorkeling for the morning. For lunch, we had a fucking expensive buffet here and the food was only s0-so. The buffet cost about RM45 per person with a variety of food - satey, lamb chop, BBQ chicken wings, crabs, fried rice, etc. Look nice but taste blunt, that's what I would say.

barbarians feasting on meat, meat, meat!!!

After lunch, we went for banana boat ride! whew, that's really a great feeling to get toast into the sea! Then we went for further snorkelling before we decided to head back to Kota Kinabalu at about 3.30pm. Unluckily, the sky was turning dark and it started to drizzle. We boarded the the boat in such condition but as soon as the boat departed, the weather turned worse and there was a storm. Wa, me so big boy first time sit board in a storm, feel so nice, like in hollywood movie :) but the rain drops hitting your face on a high speed boat that is open air was not a pleasant feeling, it was so painful! Alas, halfway on our journey, our boatman felt worry and turned back to the island. Hence, we were forced to wait at the jetty for nearly half an hour for the storm to settle down. We finally reached Kota Kinabalu this time and this end our trip to Manukan Island.

looking out at the jetty in the heavy storm

four of us feeling like we survived the perfect storm
