I'm busy again

I started working last Monday at a law firm as General Clerk at Conveyancing Department. Well, it is a busy firm and i saw my colleagues' table were covered by mountain-like files.
I was bombarded by the same question on my first day.

"You are a Science graduate, why do you want to work at law firm?"

The boss was worry that i would run away after first day of working (according to him, a business admin graduate run away on her first day of working ), so he kept reminding me to come on the next day. (haha...)
At least my first impression to the boss wasn't that bad as to him, Science students are smart, able to think wise and are fast learner. (I..i looked smart only, boss...)

My boss was actually a secondary teacher twenty years ago. He only pursued the law degree in Australia later. Therefore, he likes people who like to read for self-improvement.

Even though the pay is not high for the time being, the boss promised to increase my salary after i've proven him that i can work to reach his requirements. He told me that the company will sponsor the employees to get the law degree if the employees has excellence performance on their work.

I'm still at the learning stage. Everything seemed new to me. Moreover, I still do not know much about my company politics. (My brother told me that, i'll be on the safe path as long as i work more but talk less. But how if i kena scolded? I'm not sure whether i can take it or not? It will be a shame if i cry at office) Hopefully, I'll get used to it after a few months. Wish me luck!
